With proper maintenance and smart design choices up front, logs enjoy a long and beautiful life. The log guest home situated on the High Mountain ranch was originally constructed in 1865 and with a renovation in 2001, is a very cozy, attractive and functional guest home.

Prior to loading your log home shell onto the delivery truck, High Mountain Log Homes will treat your logs with a borate solution. This is done to protect the wood from fungi and insects and to help maintain the bright look of your log home shell until you are able to treat your log home with a top quality exterior and interior finish.

At High Mountain Log Homes, we understand log construction and take care to allow for settling around doors, windows, vertical posts, and anywhere else that it is a factor.  We take time to dicuss settling issues with the owners and contractors to ensure that everyone involved understands the dynamics of a log home.  Maintenance of a log home begins with the design phase.  Large overhangs are included to help protect the logs from sun and rain.  Rain gutters are important to keep water from splashing back onto the lower logs, especially where decks are involved.

Log home maintenance is no more difficult than caring for a stick-built house;  it's just a different process.  Maintain your home regularly.  Basic log maintenance means cleaning your log home every 2 or 3 years.  Develop a schedule for recoating logs based on the manufacturer's instructions and warranty guidelines as well as the needs of the home's exterior.  All finishes wear with time --  look for differences or bubbles in the finish, especially on the sunny side of your home.  Always use the same products used in the first treatment and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
