BUYING A LOG HOME

A finished log home, ready to move in

Every log home and log cabin that is built and sold by High Mountain Log Homes is a custom home. Finding a plan that fits your needs, lifestyle and budget is the first step in achieving your handcrafted home dream. This may be done by just sketching your ideas on paper, seeing an existing plan in a magazine, or contacting a designer or architect to transform your thoughts into working drawings. We also provide in-house design facilities to assist you and could gladly provide you with preliminary plans/sketches.

Once you have chosen the style of log home or log cabin you want, we can then give you a close estimate of what your log package will cost. If the pricing is within your budget requirements, you can then proceed to the next steps: design, drafting and engineering. If the pricing is higher than your budget allows, we can show you different ways of lowering the cost to meet your budget without changing the look and feel of your log home or log cabin.

Drafting costs for most log homes and log cabins start at 75 cents a square foot with engineering costs by a local engineer extra. Once we have a set of engineered plans we can then give you a firm bid on your log home or log cabin package. If you wish to proceed after you receive our quote, we would discuss a delivery date, payment schedule, deposit and contract.

A deposit puts your log home or log cabin into our building schedule. It shows a sign of good faith, it allows us to begin the process of allocating your material, and it puts your log home or log cabin into our construction and delivery schedule.

The handcrafted process usually takes 6-10 weeks. During this time our customers are always welcome to come and view, at anytime, the assembly of their log home or log cabin project. For this purpose we have available our guesthouse, an original 1860s Cariboo Gold Rush Roadhouse that we have completely renovated and made comfortable. So you can relax on our cattle ranch and watch your new log home or log cabin being crafted just minutes away. If viewing your poject in person is not possible, we will gladly email or mail pictures to you of the progress. At the same time, the customer may be preparing their foundation/subfloor for the arrival of the log structure. We will arrange trucking and prepare the customs documents while you, the customer, make arrangements for the crane on site.

Our crew and trucks will arrive on the same date, and the re-assembly of your log home or log cabin begins right away. This re-assembly process usually takes 2-5 days, after which the log portion of your home is complete and ready for your general contractor to begin. Our goal is to make the entire log home or log cabin building experience an enjoyable and memorable one.

A finished and ready to enjoy log home built in 2003.
